Steven Goldstein

Steven GoldsteinIntegrative Fascial Release

A Description of IFR for Clients and Interested Persons

Most clients who come to me are referrals, either through my practice or from my teaching of IFR) Integrative Fascial Release.  One of the obvious questions I get, or people ask, is what does this fellow do, and how would you describe it, and is he ONLY a Remedial Massage Therapist?

To answer this is pretty straight forward…I hold a Bachelor of Health Science in Musculoskeletal Therapy (2007) with a degree in Education (1984) which qualifies me as a clinical therapist, remedial status in Australia, and more highly educated, which moves more towards Osteopathy.  I am not an Osteopath, but I do employ Osteopathic principles, in that I work with more than the muscular system to address soft-tissue dysfunction.

I target the connective tissue of the body, primarily myofasica, ligaments and joints, and I do so in a manner than is ever mindful of the autonomic nervous system.  The nervous system is the primary focus in regards to releasing soft-tissue. the nervous system is the ‘horse’, soft-tissue is the ‘cart’.

How this is achieved is through lighter application of touch, to facilitate sensory receptor response in all the various soft-tissue…so I do treat the muscles, but unlike massage therapists who primarily focus on muscle, muscle is my last ”port of call”.  I treat the musculature at the very end of a session, not the beginning.

Another aspect that distinguished my work from others in the field, is that I assess and treat ‘globally’ before I address the local or regional concerns. This is accomplished by blending the assessment and release of  global lines of myofascial tension (Myers) (Schleip) (Paoletti), with articular receptor facilitation to unwrap and unwind soft-tissue with little or no force.

I’ve drawn from the work of Micheal Shea for Autonomic Nervous System approach and expression as the foundation of any soft-tissue work, and Craniosacral therapy to facilitate change to transverse planes.

The Articular or ‘joint’ treatment I employ is Osteopathic in principle.  I discovered how to treat joints independent of any Osteopathic training.  However I was t rained as a massage therapist in Washington state with the now famous Brian Utting School in Seattle in 1985-86. With 25 years of clinical experience, and having taught in massage education since 1992, the parameters of joint treatment were very clear. No Manipulation. We can as remedial therapists, mobilize a joint, but we cannot and will not use any forceful or ‘thrust’ maneuver, as that is outside my ‘scope of practice’.

Techniques include the ‘Two Point’, which is the placement of  hands on the body in a light manner to connect with the client’s nervous system, and to ascertain the ”energetic state” of their system and to evaluate the myofascial tensional relationship along global lines.

The ‘Fulcrum’, Static & Leverage Compressions techniques which are introduced simply are one dimensionally, then combined by ‘osteopathic stacking’, I introduce more complex releasing patterns with constant autonomic nervous system awareness, expression and response. Sound structural underpinning knowledge with an indirect approach, allows the practitioner to work more quietly and effectively.

I tend to ‘unwrap’ soft-tissue, use compressive friction sparingly, utilize the autonomic response is akin to how kinesiology utlilizes the ‘neurology’of the body before change occurs to the physical tissue.

Conditions that IFR Addresses

There are a number of clinical complaints I address routinely, these include, but are not an exhaustive list:

  1. Systemic conditions including Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue and Chronic Pain
  2. Regional dysfunctions, including Frozen shoulder, Shoulder impingement, Rotator Cuff dysfunction
  3. Lower back pain
  4. Joint pain
  5. Cervical, Jaw and Neck pain and dysfunction

Emotional and Somatic Bodywork

The work can through the release of soft-tissue allow for ‘emotional content’to release from the tissue.  These possible ‘emotional storms’are handled in the most professional and compassionate manner therapeutically speaking.  that is, no ‘counselling’ or ‘therapising’is done. As an IFR practitioner, I am not interested in your ‘content’only how you can make sense of it in relationship to your body. Where the ‘feelings’arise in your body, and what memory, meaning or emotion you attach to it in relationship to the area it arose from.

Many of my clients are meditators, yoga practitioners and teachers, receive treatment from Network chiropractors, and see many other practitioners of various modalities.  IFR is very compatible with other modalities, as it is non-intrusive, respectful and gentle.

This does not mean that i don’t on occasion go deeper, or that pain sensations aren’t navigated…I do not buy into the old axiom “no pain, no gain”.  However, negotiated and strategic application can be utilized, provided I maintain constant awareness of your pain threshold and how you are responding to the application of technique.

Noni Turner

Hypnotherapist and Ego State Therapist, Psychological Astrologer, Massage Therapist

Hypnotherapy                                                                                                                                                                                             Noni has worked with hypnotherapy for 6 years,
working with both Ego-state Therapy and
Ericksonian Hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy helps re-connect you to your inner
resources - to that part of you that knows what it
is that you need to create what you want for your
life. It is gentle, transformative, explorative
 and delightful work.

Common Question about hypnotherapy:

What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis or trance is an everyday experience very like being absorbed in a good book or an engrossing film.  It’s  simply a state of focused awareness, sometimes deeper, and sometimes lighter.

What will I experience?
Trance is a gentle but powerful experience. You’ll  feel connected, centred, empowered and quiet inside.

Will I lose control?
You are always in control with hypnosis. You go as deeply or as lightly into trance as you choose.

Why use hypnosis?
Whenever you’re in conflict, when you feel stuck, when you want to improve your performance, hypnotherapy can help. When a part of you feels one way and another part of you feels the other, hypnotherapy helps you find the place of no conflict. Perhaps you want to stop smoking but part of you loves to smoke; or part of you feels too afraid to do what another part of you really wants to do. Hypnotherapy helps when you can’t resolve an issue just by thinking about it.

What problems can hypnotherapy help?

anxiety
- so many men, women and children suffer from anxiety related disorders : panic attacks, phobias, obsessive nervous habits, or just plain excessive worry. Noni works with groups or individually to help understand the anxiety process and to restore trust and confidence in life.

depression - hypnotherapy helps you re-connect with and re-member that part of yourself that loves life. Hypnotherapy helps grow your self-esteem.

pain and illness - while it is well-known that hypnotherapy helps deal with chronic pain, it is not so commonly known that hypnotherapy can help heal or reduce the symptoms of many illnesses - chronic fatigue, menstrual migraine, blood pressure etc.

birth preparation -It is a well-known and clinically proven fact that preparing for birth with hypnosis can shorten labour, reduce pain and reduce the need for medical intervention. It is less well known that using hypnosis for childbirth is a truly delightful process that can empower and enrich your birth experience. 3-5 sessions recommended, from around 30 weeks. (Complementary cd provided)

How many sessions will I need?                                                                                                                           This will vary – anything from one session to as many as you feel you need. Sessions usually last 1 – 1½ hours.

(Dip. Ego State Therapy. Dip. Solution Oriented Hypnosis.; Adv. Dip.Solution Oriented Hypnosis, Dip. Esoteric Hypnosis.) 2000-2009)

Noni’s sleep/relaxation cds for children are also available from the clinic.

Psychological Astrology – This is a fascinating tool for self understanding. Exploring your potentials and pitfalls of your birth chart brings you a deeper, broader perspective on the workings of your psyche. It helps you understand your inner conflicts and brings you greater self-acceptance. It helps you understand the demands of the coming year, where you are in your journey, and to reassure you that no, you’re not going crazy – what’s happening in your life is actually reflected in your chart. Noni also uses the Symbolon cards for deeper insight.

Noni also works with charts of children and with babies – a great gift for new parents. Exploring the child’s chart helps parents understand and integrate differences that might otherwise be problematic, and illuminates how to best support and nurture their little one.

(Dip. Applied Astrology.1997-2003)

Massage therapy helps you get back in touch with your body – you can be more comfortable, have less pain and re-experience that wonderful feeling of increased energy, more movement and deep body/mind letting go. Noni combines remedial massage with deep relaxation, sometimes with hypnosis, sometimes with astrology – as your fancy takes you. (Cert. Massage VSMPC. 1985)

Lauren Allender

Lauren AllenderHomoeopath

Imagine a gentle, natural and fast way to treat your children.

Visited a doctor but your child is still unwell?

Many parents use homeopathy to complement their children's health program.

Did you know homeopathy gently stimulates your child's natural healing ability?

Lauren is a caring and experienced family homeopath. She specialises in treating children and babies. As a family homeopath, she also treats adults and the elderly.

1 hr - $90, ½ hr - $60,  Mondays & Fridays

Homeopathy and mainstream medicine are different

Before treatment, unlike a doctor, your homeopath must know who your child is.

Understanding their personality, past illness, inherited genetics and more, helps your homeopath prescribe the right medicine.

Homeopathy is effective and safe for babies and children

Did you know homeopathic medicine gently stimulates your child’s natural healing ability?

Helpful for colic, teething, coughs, colds, ear infections, tonsillitis, parasites, worms, behavioral problems such as autism, learning challenges such as ADHD, tantrums and hyperactivity.

Homeoprophylaxis is also available to strengthen your child’s ability to ward off common childhood diseases.

Not just for the little ones

Great for teenagers and adults too. Effective for treating skin conditions, acne, warts, period pain, cystitis, candida infection, glandular fever, irritable bowel syndrome, hay fever and sinusitis. Also stress, anxiety and depression resond well to homeopathy.

Testimonial's
Currently, I’m on an amazing journey of personal growth and am exploring better health options for myself. I now realise there’s more to my body, mind and spirit than orthodox medicine can address and that’s where homeopathic medicine fits in for me. Lauren’s overriding intuition and wealth of homeopathic knowledge has positively impacted my state of health. Lauren has helped me move towards a stronger, balanced level of energy that supports me as a whole. If you’ve tried other therapies and are in need of a new perspective, give Lauren a call. Like me, you might be surprised by the results.
S.C. (Scientist)

I started using homeopathy during my pregnancy and was really amazed at how effective and gentle it was.
During pregnancy my hayfever/dust allergy was the worst it had ever been, and it remarkably cleared completely with Lauren's homeopathic treatment which has never happened in the past.
I also was feeling overwhelmed and emotional at times and I noticed after a few weeks I was dealing with situations with more patience and I wasn't feeling such intense emotions.
During my labour I had a birth kit prepared, I experienced some intense neck stiffness during the labour and used the homeopathics suggested and it relaxed the area so I could go deeper into 'the zone' that was needed. As I had a homebirth and knew I wouldn't be using drugs that were optional in hospital for pain relief, the birth kit felt like a safety net for me emotionally and physically. I had a really amazing and beautiful birth experience and believe that the homeopathic treatment was one of the components to making this possible.
Postnatally the homeopathic treatment has helped both myself and my baby girl with issues such as nappy rash. I will continue to utilize this form of treatment for myself and my family.

Rhonda Taylor

Non-surgical face life & body contouring

Rhonda brings to Botanica Medicine a unique anti-ageing system that exercises all muscle groups to firm, lift, shape and tone the whole body.  Her invention - Ezi-Tone - delivers an isometric action to the muscles to regain strength and shape.   Gentle electrodes are placed on to each muscle group forcing the muscles to exercise at a deep level, giving them strength and tone lost through gravity and the natural ageing process.

Non-surgical Facelift.  The Ezi-tone system exercises facial muscles resulting in a firmer, younger looking face without the need for expensive, painful surgery.  After a series of treatments clients experience a firmer jaw-line, more definition in the cheeks and lifted eyelids.  The Ezi-tone counteracts the affect of gravity and gives a more youthful appearance.

Body Sculpting.  Ezi-tone can improve your body shape in specific areas without the need to spend hours in the gym.  It  improves the muscle tone in areas such as: arms, neck, breasts, tummy, bottom, thighs, and calves.

Rhonda approached a medical equipment expert to build her a muscle stimulating machine to help her get back into shape after having triplets in 1984.  Gym workouts did not give her back her shape and tone but the Ezi-tone not only gave her back her pre-pregnancy shape, it has improved her body, giving her the shape and tone of someone many years younger.  Now at 54 she has the body shape that a 20 year old would be happy to have.

Flowing (JSJ)

Jin Shin Jyutsu® Physio-Philosophy

·         bring balance to the body's energy to achieve optimal health and well-being

·         harmonise the body with  mind and spirit

·         induce a deep sense of relaxation

·         reduce the effects of stress and anxiety

·         increase the body’s innate natural ability to heal itself

What is Jin Shin Jyutsu

Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient Japanese art of healing that uses the gentle placement of the practitioner’s fingertips on established energy flow points of the body to balance and harmonise the vital energy flowing within. It helps to unblock and restore our energy or life force.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is gentle and non-invasive. It works without manipulating muscles, using needles, medicines or other products.  It is effective as a single modality and works well with other natural therapies and modern medicine, acting as a valuable partner in the healing process.

How can it help?

Jin Shin Jyutsu helps:

·         induce relaxation

·         reduce stress and fatigue

·         let go of anxiety

·         promote more restful sleep

·         if we are ‘stuck’ in thoughts, attitude or patterns of behaviour and wish to move forward

·         before, during and after pregnancy

·         before and after surgery to help the body heal more quickly

·         eliminate the cause of the condition as well as the effect

·         bring inner peace

JSJ is for everyone - a simple, powerful tool available to all to restore balance and fulfillment in our everyday lives.

As we become more health conscious we want to do something for ourselves that is truly healing.  More and more people are looking to Jin Shin Jyutsu to treat the total being – body, mind and spirit.

History

The Kojiki (Record of Ancient Things Japan, 712AD), housed in the archives of the Imperial Palace in Japan, contains the earliest written records of Jin Shin Jyutsu.  The art was passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth and was revived by the Japanese philosopher Master Jiro Murai at the start of the 20th Century. It was brought to the western world by his long term student Mary Burmeister in the 1960s. A relatively new art in Australia, there are thousands of students throughout the world.

What can you expect in a session?

A typical session lasts around an hour for adults and 15 - 20 minutes for children.  After some discussion the practitioner will listen to the pulses at your wrist, then gently apply her fingertips (over clothing) in sequence, to established energy flow points of the body.  The sequences are called 'flows'.  Clients usually experience feelings of relaxation and tranquility during and after a flow.

After there is some time for discussion and for the practitioner to provide some advice for ‘self help’.

How many sessions are needed?

Clients may come for one or several sessions initially. In most cases three to six sessions are recommended, depending on what the client is looking for, as the benefits increase with each session.  Some cases require continued and frequent treatments.  Sessions become further apart and eventually clients may continue fortnightly, monthly or whenever they choose.  Many clients enjoy the opportunity to just relax for an hour and let go of stress and anxiety as they feel the need.

Anna Glue

Anna offers holistic bodywork using basalt and marble stones of alternating temperatures with gemstones, essential oils and flower essences to achieve relaxation, purification and balance.

The therapeutic potential of this treatment is beyond measure.

Healing benefits of using hot and cold temperatures on the body have long been scientifically and medically proven.

The stones used are gentle and nurturing, leaving you in a blissfully relaxed state. You will love the feeling from this unique treatment.

This treatment uses basalt stones of various sizes: large, medium, small and very small (for your toes!). Stones are covered in heated water, and then dried and placed on the body at just the right temperature.

One stone is placed in each palm, one at the base of the neck, on the back, at the bottom of the feet, beneath the solar plexus and on the centre of the lower back to balance and relax.

The stones are left on for approximately 10 -15 minutes to allow the body to absorb the beautiful warmth which stimulates energy flow and circulation. Your body is then massaged with a blend of pure essential oils, using two stones, one in each hand.

The healing power of touch combines with the energy of the Earth in this muscle melting massage. Smooth, warmed rocks glide across the body in long, flowing strokes. The heat helps to relax the muscles and along with flower essences, has a soothing effect on the emotions; may be useful for feelings of anxiety, sleeplessness and stress.

At the same time, rocks and gemstones are placed on the body’s various energy points to encourage the body’s healing potential.

Finally, chilled marble stones are used to gently refresh and deliver balance back to your body and mind.

Massage using stones dissolves tension, strain and muscle aches while improving circulation and lymph as an aid to detoxing.

It is a mini-workout for your body without having to visit the gym!
