Major Safety Issues:
Assessment of the patient’s blood pressure and other medications is required before prescribing liquorice. Exercise care with elderly patients. Patients who are prescribed liquorice that is high in glycyrrhizin other than for short periods should be placed on a high potassium and low sodium diet, and should be closely monitored for blood pressure increases and weight gain
